I'm coming to the conclusion that it's really hard to pace the last season of a TV series, even if you know it's the last season in advance. Maybe it's all the practice in setting things up for the next season? Anyway, speaking from the night-after-the-end-of-POI! perspective, I think you'll enjoy the last season, although the same caveat definitely applies.

I really enjoyed the Divine Cities books by Robert Jackson Bennett - aside from that seem to have been doing a lot of rereading. Oh, and just read the last Temeraire book and thought it was a good conclusion - guess having some historical framework helps with endings!
