I don't even think I'm choosing consciously most of the time, so possibly even less scientific. But it is interesting to look at after the fact. And hm, I tend to think of you as a present-tense writer, but that's not true - you're very good at finding immediacy in some way no matter what tense you choose, though, so that's likely where the impression comes from.
