IRL he never made it back to the ship (yes, big river, the Hudson, but small ship) and instead was forced to try to get back behind British lines over land, and was captured and convicted of spying and executed.
There's a rather militant faction in this country (especially our part of it) that wants cats kept in, half of them on behalf of the cats (because danger) and half (many of whom hate cats) on behalf of the birds. Our plan had more to do with not losing another cat (especially to poison like the last one) but I know Hotspurr does hunt pretty efficiently (and unlike his predecessor doesn't bring his kill to share with us, which I'm rather glad of, though he did vomit bunny on the floor once). But there's little we can do about that, and he does seem to prefer fur to feathers overall. I suspect he'll be inside a lot more come winter, though he did want to go out in the snow in February.
