'Lack of significance and import' - yes! I never quie articulated it before, but that is exactly the cause of almost all the times when I stall on a story. I know roughly what happens, but I just don't care.
And I have no idea what the actual reference is about, but Stephen Maturin distracted by evil balloons makes me want to see him exploring Sergyar and all its flora and fauna. Especially fauna.
