Out walking or in the shower, yes :-). I have all my best ideas there too. But only if I'm walking by myself or with a sleeping child; I can't plot while walking with other people.
It sounds kind of freeing of the imagination, starting a story which isn't intended to be a real book, just one that's mentioned in another one. I can see how that would work out better than the original idea.
