hedda62: Harold Finch in his HAT (hat baby)
POI 2.22, a few scattered reactions at an ungodly early hour:

Is it terrible that the most significant thought I had, going to bed last night, was "ooh, nice use of the color yellow"? Though there were not a lot of Goldilocks moments.

Bullet points seem appropriate in this case. Golly, what a body count. Ouch.

- And yeah, they did need the warning at the beginning. The ferry bombing took me by surprise (as a plot device, I mean); somehow I'd always envisioned a car accident on a lonely road. I like it this way; it ups Harold's guilt factor considerably. Innocent bystanders and how.

- Actually there was much I liked about that whole scene (ow, Harold limping out and no doubt exacerbating his injuries in the process, and "Did you know?" *heartstab*), although how did Grace know Harold was on the ferry? It seems an odd thing to have told her under the circumstances.

- I have many plot-related confusions, actually (like why was the laptop in China, or are we just supposed to accept that it "took that path"?), probably because yesterday was a Migraine Day on which I still had to get things done, although I also watched more "Lost," including "The Other Woman," which meant I got to see Brett Cullen dead twice. Oh, Nathan. (Though again, questions: we saw an obituary earlier, did we not, that said nothing in the headline about ferries. You would think the press would tie it in. But I'd have to go check my facts on that, and besides goodness knows what fiddling Harold's been up to.)

- Anyway: Carter and Elias! On the run together! The mind reels. Can't wait to see what they do with this. (I kind of want to write Elias into my Barrayaran POI world now. Oaths, OMG.)

- Also, mysterious woman in car who is not Judi Dench though it's fun to think of you that way! Oh, ridiculous show, I love you.

- I kind of adore the "danger at one o'clock" device, and especially the Machine emulating the GPS lady during the police chase, although disbelief was not suspended any more than the car was. Reese and Shaw: the Indestructibles. (At least we hope so.) They are a fantastic team, and they can borrow my helicopter anytime.

- I am so glad that Root survived. And that Harold apparently wanted her to. As did the Machine. This is so, so promising for next season.

- On the whole, though, I came out of it slightly underwhelmed, I think mostly because the ending felt rushed. I am spoiled by fanfic? Not that I expected Harold and John to fall into each other's arms, but I expected them to express restrained emotions with better writing, and oh for God's sake, not the Jessica Plot again. I'm glad they made up their differences, but since the differences weren't expressed by anything more than being in separate cars, it was hard to feel their pain. Though I do feel like going off on a manifesto about the sublimity of hope.

- There couldn't have been twenty seconds of Bear and Leon at the dog park? (And I like Shaw's priorities, heh.)

So: maybe this was all too hot or too cold, but a) lots of possibilities for the new season, and b) tons of room for fic. The summer will pass quickly, I'm sure...
